Chandigarh, September 24:- On the occasion of “Samagra Swachhata divas” under ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ programme from 15th September to 2nd October, 2017, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh cleaned all the parks and cleaned garbage from all choes “Nullahs” throughout the city today.

Sh. B. Purushartha, IAS, Municipal Commissioner started cleanliness drive from Rose Garden, Sector 16, today morning alongwith all the senior officers and MC staff. He himself cleaned the nullahs and other parts the park where garbage was scattered. He alongwith Sh. Saurav Mishra, IAS and Sh. Uma Shankar Gupta, Additional Commissioners also launched similar drives throughout city including Sector 49, Sector 15, 19 and others areas.

Similar cleanliness drives were organized throughout all 26 MC wards under the supervision of MC councilors in their respective wards.

While talking about Samagra Swachhata, the Commissioner said that the MC Chandigarh has involved all citizen stakeholders including youth, defense personal, women and children, sportspersons, Swachh Bharat Mission Ambassador, Corporate, civil servants, Para functionaries and faith organizations to clean their places and surroundings on this day and on regular basis.

He said that this is because access to sanitation is not an infrastructure problem, there is a deeper behavioural and socio-cultural context at play. Influencing a change in behaviour for all citizen stakeholders is a challenge that has probably never been undertaken before. This could only be achieved through an intensive, time-bound intervention, spearheaded from the highest level, and involving all sections of society and government alike. The Swachh Bharat Mission’s Swachhagraha has caught the Nation’s imagination just the way the Mahatma’s Satyagraha had, many years ago, he added.

He said that on 25th September, the Municipal Corporation will organize cleanliness drive on large scale cleaning of Hospitals, parks, statues, bus stops, ponds and toilets across the city according to “Sarvatra Swachhata” under the ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ programme.
