Chandigarh is one of the co-hosts for the 8th Theatre Olympics which is being held for the first time in India. On Thursday, Tagore Hall at Chandigarh saw the Polish performance ‘Dziady Noc Druga’. The play directed by Piotr Tomaszuk, is set in 1820’s – Poland and Lithuania, which are under Russian occupation and depicts how Poles and Lithuanians are deprived of civil rights and are oppressed, imprisoned or sentenced to forced labour deep into Russia and Siberia.
On Friday, Chandigarh will see the Hindi play ‘Pancha Kanyaa’ by director Sonal Mansingh and presented by Centre for Indian Classical Dances, New Delhi.
The Chandigarh chapter of Theatre Olympics 2018 is organised by National School of Drama (NSD) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and in collaboration with Department of Cultural Affairs Chandigarh Administration/Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy. The Chandigarh edition of the festival will end on 3rd April, 2018.
