Good metabolism boosts weight loss : Dr Malini Dahiya

Panchkula, 9 September:  Metabolism is the process which converts food into energy. Hence, people with a fast metabolism are able to digest food in a much better way. This also affects weight loss. To keep metabolism faster one has to be stress free. Stress is brain’s response to the outer challenging situations at home or workplace. When stress covers our body and mind it leads to severe illnesses. Adrenal gland releases cortisol hormone to balance neurotransmission functions of our body. High levels of cortisol leads to stress which in turn causes insomnia, indigestion and fatigue, says Malini Dahiya, Clinical Dietitian.

Ms Dahiya says, “In Ayurveda, herbs which are effective in stress management are known as Medhya Rasayana, like Brahmi, which acts as a brain nourisher. The antioxidant property of Brahmi increases immunity and relieves stress. It can also be consumed in conditions like anxiety, epilepsy, ulcers and anaemia. Then there is Ashwagandha, which not only relaxes mind but also removes physical tiredness of muscles.”

Tulsi, a sacred herb, regulates the stress hormone cortisol and nourishes brain, besides improving immunity and keeping life stress-free. Similarly, Chamomile helps one in disturbed sleep and is beneficial in fever, indigestion and muscle spasm. Another herb is peppermint, a natural muscle relaxant. Then there is Lemongrass, which is a pain suppressor and is useful in anxiety and indigestion.
