UT Home Secretary, Shri Anurag Agarwal taking a round of Annual Art Exhibition 2018 at Galleries of Govt. College of Art, Sector-10, Chandigarh on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh, inaugurated the Annual Art exhibition of the Government College of Art today, which is spread over almost all the studios and the exhibition hall of the college. This is a mega event of the art scenario of the city beautiful where approximately 1500 works by around 350 young and budding artists form the aura of this prestigious event. The exhibition has taken shape under the auspices of Sh. K.P.S. Mahi, PCS and HOD cum Principal of Government College of art and Mrs. Alka Jain, Associate Professor, Chief coordinator of the Annual Art exhibition 2018.

The exhibition which is an annual event of the college provides a platform to these budding artists to showcase their talent and it also reflects the creative might of the students and the faculty members of the college.The students of the BFA and the MFA courses from all the four disciplines i.e. Applied art, Painting, Graphics (Print making) and Sculpture contribute their works for this annual show. Students also hone their skill of exhibiting a work of art. The content and form of the exhibition truly mirrors the concern of the artists highlight the challenges that the society is facing in the present times. Crime against women and the impact of the globalization are few of the issues which has captured the artist’s imagination. Around 20 students of the special diploma (specially abled) have showcased their creativity in a very different manner and different mediums overcoming their limitations. Their works are reflection of their deeper understanding of the world around them.

The chief guest admired the creations of the budding artists and lauded the efforts of the students and faculty in showcasing the myriad hues of the creative power that this premier institute bestows in them.
Sh. K.P.S. Mahi appreciated the efforts of the students and the faculty in putting such a grand exhibition. He was optimistic about the future of the upcoming artists who will be the ambassadors of the golden cultural heritage of this great nation. Mrs. Alka Jain, Chief Co ordinator of the exhibition thanked the chief guest and expressed gratitude to the Administration for encouraging the young and budding artists. The exhibition will remain on view till 12th March 2018 between 10:00 am to 06:00 pm.
