To encourage industry to become Green Companies by gaining GreenCo ratings, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised an interaction with His Excellency, Governor, Himachal Pradesh, Acharya Dev Vrat at Baddi on Wednesday. A ‘Sapling Plantation’ and ‘Swachh Bharat drive’ was also organised today to encourage the industry to keep their surroundings clean and green. The Governor planted a sapling of Silver Oak tree on the occasion. officers of the As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India, the Governor also picked up the broom to clean a small stretch at the venue along with senior officers present. As many as 50 saplings of the Silver Oak variety were also distributed among the participants as part of the drive to encourage environment conservation.
Addressing the participants, His Excellency, Governor, Himachal Pradesh, Acharya Dev Vrat, said, “I am extremely happy to have witnessed such a positive response from the industry towards protecting the environment. I request the industrialist to take care of the excessive pollution in the industrial hubs of the state to protect its Green cover which they can do by going for Green Company ratings also. Our Hon’ble PM is working very hard for the industries, farmers, etc of the country.
“I am very happy that the industrialists in Baddi have created a green area in their facilities but a lot more needs to be done. Even in Himachal Pradesh, the weather conditions have drastically changed over the years. What we do to the environment today will affect our next generations,” he added.
Mr Rajesh Sharma, Director- Industries & Secretay- Governor, Himachal Pradesh, said, “It is heartening to see that today’s session is clubbed with a session on Green Companies. The industry in Baddi must go a step ahead to take care of the environment. The Green plantation drive started today will be taken forward by the Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh development Authority under which 3,000 to 4,000 saplings will be planted alongside the roads in Baddi. In another positive, industries in Himachal Pradesh who have zero waste from factories and are also recycling waste. The state is also doing very well in following the Zero Effect Zero Defect Mission recently by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. On 18 August, the state government is organising a workshop with UNDP to chalk out a plan on disaster management for industries.”
Rajesh Saboo, CII Himachal Pradesh Council said, “GreenCo Rating is the first of its kind in the world framework that evaluates companies on the ecological front. Government of India, in its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) document, has acknowledged GreenCo ratings as one of industry’s key initiatives aimed at combating climate change.”
“GreenCo rating has facilitated companies to excel in their environmental performance and introduce some of the latest green concepts like Green Supply chain management, Product Stewardship and Life Cycle Environment Impact Assessment (LCA),” he added.
“Presently, over 300 companies are working on the rating and 130 companies have been rated which includes several leading companies, PSUs, Indian railway facilities and SMEs. The objective of the program is to sensitize industries in Baddi on the GreenCo initiative, provide knowledge on the latest Green concepts and showcase case studies from leading green companies.”
Mr IMJS Sidhu Vice Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh State Council said, “The GreenCo rating system conducted by CII is a very powerful framework that can catalyze greening of the Indian Industry and also make them globally competitive. I am sure that today’s awareness program on Green companies would prove useful in sensitizing companies in Baddi & Himachal on adopting green growth models.”
