The Department of Paediatrics, Command Hospital (Western Command) under the guidance of Maj Gen Rashmi Datta, Commandant, Command Hospital (Western Command), organized a two day workshop ,”Essential Newborn Care “,supported by Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Chandigarh Branch and the Indian Association of Neonatal Nurses (IANN).
A total of 54 students from the School of Nursing, Command Hospital (Western Command), PGIMER and local hospitals attended the hands-on workshop aimed at imparting essential skills for new-born care. Earlier, the Chief Guest, Maj Gen Mukti Sharma of Headquarter Western Command welcomed all the faculty and participants and emphasised the importance of updating knowledge and skills through such regular training. Dr Inderjeet Kaur, President IAP Chandigarh and Ms Jessy Paul, Secretary IANN were other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Dr Praveen Kumar, Professor & HoD, Department of Neonatology, PGIMER spoke about the future of Neonatal Care in India and Dr Deepak Chawla, Associate Professor Department of Paediatrics, Govt Medical College & Hospital gave an insight into Quality Improvement.

The Department of Paediatrics conducts regular patient outreach activities and training of health care providers. The 10-bed level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit caters to a large number of dependents in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and has an excellent outcome comparable to the best centers in the country.
