VETERANS NEED TRANSIT SERVICE

VETERANS NEED TRANSIT SERVICE FROM PARIS TO NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
BY
ENOCH HAGANS
The distance between the cities of Paris, Tennessee and
Nashville is 113 miles depending on which route one travels. However, this
distance might as well be 1000 miles away because Veterans have no reliable or
affordable way to reach the Veterans Administration Hospital located in
Nashville. Many Veterans complain that this country can train and then transport
a Soldier over 6000 miles away to a foreign country to fight, but here at home
cannot transport Veterans to a medical facility a 100 miles away.
This problem has been well-known by the Tennessee
Department of Transportation (TDOT), the Tennessee Department of Veterans
Affairs (TDVA) and their federal sister agencies such as the U.S. Department of
Transportation (USDOT) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
Veterans call the corridor between the cities of Henry and Carroll Counties, the
middle of nowhere, because many Veterans have become seriously ill or their
condition worsens because they cannot reach the VA hospital to receive medical
treatment regularly. This problem is largely ignored by local and state
politicians, who state that there is no funding, call the VA or call TDOT while
moving down the hallway or down the street. The worst part is these politicians
always say, I will have my office look into this situation. And always nothing
happen!
Recently, a contract was awarded to a local transit
company. Almost immediately problems surfaced with the price tag being $43.00
dollars round trip from Paris to Nashville with the bus arriving at Vanderbilt
University at about 6:55 a.m. where the Veteran must catch another bus to the VA
Hospital and arrive before 7:00 a.m. when most medical appointments start and if
the Veteran is late he/she must reschedule their appointment. Many of the
Veterans who are senior citizens or living on a fixed income cannot afford the
$43.00 round trip price tag and the bus departs from Vanderbilt University
before 3:45 p.m. when many Veterans are still in clinic or waiting for their
medications at the Pharmacy and as many Vets can tell you that is a long wait.
These Veterans have grown tired of the excuses and have
developed a action plan with several Veterans Service Organizations to implement
their own Veterans Transit System specifically designed to transport Veterans
from the rural counties of middle Tennessee which include: Benton, Carroll,
Henry, Houston, Stewart, & Weakley.
A grassroots donation effort has started to purchase a
intercity transit bus and hire professional drivers to transport these brave men
and women who put on the uniform, to serve our country during war or times of
peace to the VA hospital.

A Women's Touch Auto Detailing
My curiosity got the best of me when I passed a Chevy Tahoe
with a window sign that read “A Women’s Touch Auto Detailing”. My first
reaction, “A FEMALE AUTO DETAILER?” I had to call the number on the sign; a soft
voice answered the phone and we chatted about her services.
We set up an appointment for an interview; I pulled up to the driveway to find A
Big A Super Duty Truck and this small frame lady standing on a step stool
cleaning with a really small cloth. Brenda was using a process she calls clay
baring, which cleans the acetones, rail dust, particles, water stains, and
ground in dirt out of the paint. I watched for over an hour (well at least until
it rained) as this 5 ft tanned lady went around this truck, worked and explained
the process. The truck transformed before my eyes, and to my surprise she had no
wax on the truck yet. It was summer time fresh!
Brenda also owns Fantasy Candles she makes bug repellant,
lip balm and much more. If you would like to have your Auto, Truck, or Van
detailed or pick up a few custom candles call A Woman’s Touch Auto Detailing
